Canvas Prints for framing and Canvas Art Wraps

Art wraps are canvas prints where the image is printed all the way to the edge of the canvas. The canvas is then stretched around the outside of a wooden frame, similar to a traditional painter’s canvas. The image is visible on the front and on the sides of the finished presentation for a beautiful, 3 dimensional, artistic, contemporary feel. These prices include full retouching, air brushing and art work as well as protective brush stroke finishing. Prints are available in color or black and white.

Canvas for framing comes frame ready with the above finishing options! It can be put on a stretcher frame or on masonite.

11x14 $300
16x20 $400
20x24 $850
24x30 $1100
30x40 $1,700
40x60 $2,500
60x80 $4,000

Shipping directly to your door via Fedex is included!

Q: Why does canvas cost more than standard printing?
Short Answer - labor, time and handling risks.

Detailed Answer:
A standard professional print, after color and density correction, is processed by a machine called a LED printer (light-omitting diode). These are not ink jet printers. The image is put on paper with light using a laser similar to the traditional methods using enlargers. Canvas prints take this process a step farther. On paper prints the image is actually contained on a thin film on top of the backing or what we feel as paper. The film is stripped away from the paper/emulsion and laid over canvas fabric.

The fabric has 2 weights. I prefer the 10mm or the loosest gage available because it shows more of the canvas weave texture when viewing the image. There are 2 options for ordering canvas prints. One, to be put into a frame and two, to be hung directly on the wall with the image showing on the sides for a 3D effect. This 3D presentation is called an Art Wrap.

Canvas prints that are put on backing board like mat board or massonite are for displaying on an easel or to be put directly into a frame. Canvas printing on a stretcher frame is for framing only and cannot be matted. Also, canvas prints on stretcher frames need wider frames. If you have a standard frame from Michaels, Ames, Wall-mart or any other general craft store you will most likely want to stick with having your canvas on a backing board. Putting the canvas onto a stretcher frame allows the print to breath if the temperatures or humidity shift dramatically where the image will be displayed.

Mat board will bend in damp environments but works well for typical household conditions because it is very light but also very easy to bend. Massonite is very hard and very durable. For those who are more interested in the texture effect of canvas I would recommend using the wide weave and putting your print on massonite backing board with brush stroke texture or at least a luster spray to protect your investment.
